Blog 1

How does Bigger Thomas fluctuate between innocence and experience in the beginning of the novel. Think about the ways in which he demonstrates mature and immature behavior and behavior that feigns adulthood. Also think about how his personality shifts in the presence of different characters.

(90- 100%) Student provides a meaningful and thoughtful response that demonstrates the student’s understanding of the question being asked. The response is logical and defended with thoughtful opinions or insightful connections and examples/quotations from the novel. The response is organized and grammatically correct.

(80- 89%) Student provides some insights that demonstrate the student’s understanding of the questions posed. However, the student may not fully develop all his/her ideas. Overall, the student has made reasonable opinions and or sound connections and examples/quotations from the novel. Overall, the response is well-organized and there are only a few minor grammatical errors.

(70- 79 %) Student provides a response that does not go beyond the facts of the narrative or the response is mostly summary. Some of the opinions expressed are not supported by evidence from the novel. The response may be hard to follow, but the overall meaning is still clear. There are a few significant grammatical errors.

(60- 69 %) Student provides a response that does not directly answer the questions posed. The response may include unsupported opinions or irrelevant connections and examples from the novel. The response is not logical in its presentation and there many significant grammatical mistakes.

(0 -59%) Student does not provide a lengthy response and does not attempt to answer the questions being posed. The response may also contain several grammatical mistakes that make it difficult for the reader to derive meaning from most of the entry.
